If it’s not about Crypto/NFT, why does it involve Blockchain?
Blockchain is just a secure, tamper-proof way of keeping data safe — think of it like a backup save slot that no one, not even a game studio, can erase. We use it because it’s the most reliable way to ensure your player profile survives even if official servers go offline.
Is there no other solution to the problem of decentralized user data storage?
Not necessarily, but Firewood is our solution and we believe it has advantage of being broadly applicable, can be trusted by all parties and persistent.
From how you describe, isn’t Firewood essentially tokenizing save files?
This has some truth to that. Firewood grants each save file a unique "fingerprint" so servers can recognize and trust. However, at the moment we are not thinking about any marketplace for these “tokenized save files”.
I just don’t like any of these blockchain/crypto/NFT things,I want to own the game I purchased and keep playing them but I don’t like you.
We get it - blockchain has been a taboo in mainstream game development circle, and an absolute red flag for many gamers. But first, I hope our action speaks it self, and one day you will start trusting us; we sincerely hope so. Secondly, one thing a Firewood-compatible game must have is public private server executable, and that by itself, is already half of the solution you want. You’re at least supposed to play the game with it when a game shuts down.Taking your profile on-chain through Firewood would lead to a more seamless transition, and also it will preserve what you have achieved during the game’s official lifespan.
Why is Firewood not about Crypto/NFT?
Aside from the general distrust toward Crypto/NFT/Web3/DeFi among mainstream gaming communities, we just don’t believe they are relevant to Firewood’s mission – to create a solution for user profile preservation both gamers and publishers can trust.
